Boxes

Deborah and Paul Peiffer were married less than two years ago. He added to his 3 children to her two sons and menagerie, which he has embraced—once he and the dog established who the pack leader was. The magic didn't even faze him! He and Deborah recently relocated to Washington from Des Moines to the job of his dreams.

Paul is a renaissance man. He grew up on a dairy farm in the mid-west, "one of six children in six and a half years…no running water and a two-holer out back." From this, he learned a deep appreciation for life. However, Paul recently lost his father, and this loss, combined with his diagnosis of stage-four cancer, has given him a new determination to over come all the challenges life has thrown at him, successfully. He has already beaten the odds, which just gives him more strength for the fight… Despite his very analytical mind, Paul has the ability to express his emotions and emotional journey through poetry.

Inspired by a few of the growing plethora of Paul's poems that express the tumultuous emotions of his recent journeys, Deborah has expanded on his voice in her recent series of boxes.

The distressed wooden shadow boxes (13¼ inches square) are lined in mirror with LED lights to highlight the pieces inside. Paul's poems are permanently inscribed on the glass covers. These pieces work as visual art, but the jewelry may also be removed from the boxes to be worn as the owner's own dynamic statement of style and dress.

Deborah and Paul hope that they will give you pause to think, and appreciate and fight for what you desire in this life.

MOVING FORWARD

Travails in which we become mired,
Are not pursued or openly desired;
But tests we endure on a daily basis,
Truly move us from our usual stasis;
Cries of the heart become passions of life,
And now I know, I can overcome any strife.

Melodious songbirds doth sing,
As spring rains rainbows bring;
Gracefully decorating the skies,
A banquet for earthly eyes;
From earth to sky they rise,
Unburdened by truth or lies;
As they meet in glorious color,
Lighting earth with the beauty of solar….

TRADITIONS

Each step of life is different,
From various traditions we are sent;
Christianity, Judaism, Islam, or,
To various beliefs our hearts soar;
Deeper understanding comes in its time,
Not ours, and with no reason or rhyme;
With patience more becomes known,
As the truth of time is deeply sown….

FIRE AND ICE

Fire or Ice?
Naughty or Nice?
Of Life or Love?
From Within or Above?
Hearts eternally seek,
But are granted but a peek;
When found, you know it in your core,
For the answer is yours & not from lore.

NEW BEGINNINGS

From a union of two minds and hearts,
A new life soon starts;
In youth there are many hills to climb,
From the steep to the sublime;
Life briefly becomes calm for a spell,
We are in control & we are well;
The path ultimately turns down once again,
We find Exodus, like Genesis, where we began.

LOVE'S JOURNEY

True love knows no end,
Cold gray days cannot bend;
Love's course in life,
Through bliss and strife;
Two hearts from separate sources,
Take unknown and unique courses;
To join each other in an unbreakable union,
For they must find each other, not if, but when….

FROM THE ABYSS

Into the abyss I fall,
There is no one I can call,
Lights shimmer, then fade;
No one comes to my aid;
White to green to deep blue,
My mood is one with you;
You can make it and survive,
So can I…Yes, I am alive.
